Ways To Prevent Or Deal With Lice The Safe & Natural Way
The scientific classification is, pediculus humanus capitis, but they are better known as head lice. These tiny bugs are to humans, what fleas are to pets, although they can not jump like fleas do. They colonize the hair and scalp of people, feeding on blood they get from the scalp. They are the cause of a lot of itching as well as embarrassment and other negative feeling in the people who are hosting them.
The vast majority of hosts are children from the age of three to the age of twelve, but lice will infest virtually anyone’s hair, if the opportunity comes along. Those opportunities are in the home. When adults are infested, it is almost always because they got it from one of their own children. Head to head contact is the main way new infestations occur. Secondary causes include the sharing of combs, brushes & hats.
The single greatest action you can take to do what you can to prevent an infestation in your household, is to make sure that your children do not share their combs and brushes and hats with anybody else. This is a bit of a dilemma since parents have probably spent considerable time & effort teaching them the importance of not being selfish.
The traditional substances that doctors tend to prescribe for treating this condition are insecticide shampoos to wash the hair. They assure you that the level of toxicity is enough to kill the bugs but to have no harmful effect upon the person, which is usually a child.
If you quiz the doctor she will have to admit that there are cases where some people are more sensitive than others and bad things have happened. Indeed, they happen on an ongoing basis. She will likely blame most of it on people who refuse to follow directions.
The fact is, these toxin are strong enough to pass through your scalp and get into your blood and potentially create traumatic events with your brain and nervous system. Disease and illness is not uncommon and even when directions were followed, seizures have occurred. It some cases, they led to death. What consolation is it to say that this most likely happened because directions were not precisely followed?
Lice do not pass on diseases or pose a threat to anyone’s health. Even if they did, there is no more logic in washing your hair with insecticide as there would be to burn down your house to get rid of cockroaches. As is almost always the case, there are solutions that are natural, that perform as well, without putting anyone’s health at risk.
You might be surprised what combing with a lice comb can do, every day for 2 weeks. For many people, that is enough. You can put the bugs in a baggie. They will die after 48 hours. You can also get some essential oils; specifically, the essential oil of geranium, eucalyptus and lavender. Mix 2 drops of each into about a teaspoon’s worth of unscented natural body lotion and massage the scalp with it, mixing it in thoroughly. Comb with a lice comb and and rinse, 30 minutes later. Another natural solution is to mix equal amounts of organic apple cider vinegar & ground up Nigella Sativa. Strain it after ten minutes and pour it in your hair. You do not have to rinse.
Dealing with pesky critters also known as lice in the hair is not fun. You definitely need to have a lice removal technique. Lice shampoo is going to do the job.
